Which printing process is right for me?

FDM: Ideal for simple applications and prototypes that do not require a high level of detail. Cost-effective and fast.

SLA: Perfect for models with a high level of detail and smooth surfaces. SLA uses liquid resin that is cured by UV light and is particularly suitable for small and complex designs.

SLS / MJF: Offers high strength and is suitable for functional prototypes and series production. These processes use powdered materials that are fused by laser or heat and enable robust, detailed prints.

What are the delivery times for the various processes?

FDM: Standard delivery time 2-5 working days. Express production possible within 1-2 working days.

SLA / SLS / MJF: Standard delivery time 7-10 working days. Express production possible in approx. 6-8 working days.

Printer
  • FDM (all-round / standard plastic)
  • SLS / MJF (functional plastic / robust)
  • SLM (metal)
  • SLA (fine detail / smooth surface)

Infill

Normal: Suitable for models without physical stress. SLA models are made hollow if possible. Ideal for figures, visual prototypes and simple, unloaded models.

Stable: The model is produced solid and with reinforced wall thickness, perfect for mechanical parts, spare parts and brackets.

Post-processing

You can select a post-processing method here. If no post-processing is required, you can omit this.

Acrylic lacquer: Transparent acrylic lacquer is applied which is particularly suitable for the selected material. This makes the model more weather and UV resistant.
Chemical smoothing: The surface is chemically smoothed and given a glossy finish. This finish is particularly suitable for smaller models.

Post-processing
  • High-gloss sandblasting
  • Matt sandblasting
  • Clear lacquer (transparent)
  • Protective coating against UV radiation (transparent)
  • Protective coating against water and gas (transparent)

FAQ - Frequently asked questions

  • All materials are listed in our Material Finder: https://swiss3d.ch/material-finder. With numerous filter options, you can quickly find the right material and printing process. Alternatively, our AI assistant (icon bottom right) can help you - simply tell it the intended use and desired material properties. If you are unsure, please feel free to contact us at any time.
  • The filling density determines what percentage of the model is filled with material. We print with 40% filling density ("Normal") or 80% ("Stable") as standard - this ensures stable, precise models without deformation. If you would like a different filling density, please reply to the order confirmation e-mail with your request - we will adjust it free of charge. In the SLA / SLS / MJF and DMLS process, we always print with 100% infill density.
  • The maximum print sizes can be found in the Material Finder(https://swiss3d.ch/material-finder) for the respective material. Models can also be printed and assembled in several parts - this is only possible by arrangement. We check all models in advance free of charge.
  • Yes, we check every model free of charge for errors such as mesh errors, unrealistic size, walls that are too thin or risks of deformation. In such cases, we will contact you before printing. However, we cannot guarantee this and ask you to check models yourself in advance as best you can.
  • If you pay by invoice, you do not have to pay before printing. The payment period is 14 days after receipt of the invoice. Alternatively, you can also pay conveniently by Twint, Paypal or credit card.
  • The size can be seen in the online calculator and the model can be scaled as required.
  • Yes, we remove support structures from all models free of charge.
  • Yes, the models are cleaned and, depending on the material, de-powdered or washed. Further post-processing such as sanding or painting is possible on request.
  • Live tracking is possible in the customer account (if created). In addition, we send status messages by e-mail (e.g. "In progress", "Being printed", "Sent"). For more detailed information, please write to us at info@swiss3d.ch. The production department will get back to you as soon as possible. Information on current orders can only be provided to a very limited extent by telephone.
  • In most cases we offer a tracking number. You will receive this by e-mail. Please note that it may take a few hours before the tracking number is available at the post office. For small models, tracking information may not be available. We send all parcels by A Mail. Your parcel should usually arrive 1-2 working days after dispatch. If there are any delays, you can contact us at any time.
  • These can be found in the Material Finder under the respective material. As a rule, the following times apply:
    FDM: 2-5 working days
    SLA/ SLS / MJF: 7-10 working days
    DMLS: 10-15 working days
    Express production is possible.
  • The express option can be selected in the checkout after entering the address (CHF 24 surcharge on standard shipping). The express option prioritizes production. For FDM, the production time is usually less than 24 hours. For other processes, production is prioritized as best as possible, but faster delivery cannot be guaranteed. In individual cases, same-day delivery by courier is possible for an additional charge, please call our emergency number: 032 510 07 27 (only for express orders - no other information)
  • We will inform you in good time if delays are likely to occur. We have very high capacities for orders in SLA, SLS, MJF or DMLS, so that delivery times usually remain the same even for larger quantities.
  • We ship to Switzerland and Liechtenstein as standard. Other countries are possible on request.
  • No problem. Please place the order and then reply to the order confirmation e-mail with the desired orientation.
  • We determine the layer height depending on the model. The standard layer heights are noted in the Material Finder(https://swiss3d.ch/material-finder) for the respective material. For detailed models, we use the finest possible resolution as standard. If you require a specific layer height, please reply to the order confirmation e-mail.
  • Yes, we offer the incorporation of threads for all DMLS materials (metal). Please contact us with a PDF showing the threads.
  • Please contact us. In most cases, we have the material in stock, even if it is not listed in the online calculator. We can also integrate new materials into our portfolio on request for an additional charge.
  • You can find these in the Material Finder(https://swiss3d.ch/material-finder) for the respective material.
  • No problem - please use our AI chatbot (icon at the bottom right) or contact us directly by e-mail at info@swiss3d.ch or by phone from Monday to Friday, 07:00-19:00, on 032 510 07 22.
