Which printing process is right for me?

FDM: Ideal for simple applications and prototypes that do not require a high level of detail. Cost-effective and fast.

SLA: Perfect for models with a high level of detail and smooth surfaces. SLA uses liquid resin that is cured by UV light and is particularly suitable for small and complex designs.

SLS / MJF: Offers high strength and is suitable for functional prototypes and series production. These processes use powdered materials that are fused by laser or heat and enable robust, detailed prints.

What are the delivery times for the various processes?

FDM: Standard delivery time 2-5 working days. Express production possible within 1-2 working days.

SLA / SLS / MJF: Standard delivery time 7-10 working days. Express production possible in approx. 6-8 working days.

Infill

Normal: Suitable for models without physical stress. SLA models are made hollow if possible. Ideal for figures, visual prototypes and simple, unloaded models.

Stable: The model is produced solid and with reinforced wall thickness, perfect for mechanical parts, spare parts and brackets.

Post-processing

You can select a post-processing method here. If no post-processing is required, you can omit this.

Acrylic lacquer: Transparent acrylic lacquer is applied which is particularly suitable for the selected material. This makes the model more weather and UV resistant.
Chemical smoothing: The surface is chemically smoothed and given a glossy finish. This finish is particularly suitable for smaller models.

Post-processing
  • Acrylic lacquer
  • Chemical smoothing (only available with ASA)

FAQ - Frequently asked questions

  • Which material / process is right for me?
Detailed data sheets for our filaments can be found under the following link: https://swiss3d.ch/category/3d-materialien Here is a brief summary of the most important points:
    • PLA Basic: PLA Basic is the ideal filament if you are looking for a glossy surface for your 3D printed objects. It is a standard PLA filament with good printability and a variety of color options. It is well suited for general applications and offers a good balance between quality, aesthetics and affordability.
    • PLA Matte: PLA Matte is the right choice if you want a matte surface for your 3D printing projects. In contrast to the glossy PLA Basic, PLA Matte has a lower reflectivity, resulting in a silky, matte finish. This filament is well suited for aesthetic designs where a matte look is desired.
    • ASA: ASA filament is an excellent option if you need durable 3D printed objects for outdoor use. It offers excellent UV resistance and weather resistance, which means that the printed parts will remain stable even when exposed to sunlight and adverse weather conditions. ASA is well suited for outdoor use, such as garden or patio furniture, enclosures or other parts that are exposed to the elements.
    • PETG: PETG filament is characterized by its high impact strength, chemical resistance and transparency. It is a good choice for functional applications where strength and durability are required. PETG is also suitable for transparent or semi-transparent objects as it transmits light well. It is versatile and can be used in areas such as prototyping, mechanical parts, containers or packaging.
    • SLA: SLA is the ideal choice for high-precision and detailed 3D prints. It offers excellent surface quality and is well suited for applications that require high accuracy. SLA is versatile and suitable for a wide range of projects, from prototypes to final products. It offers a good balance between quality, aesthetics and durability.
  • What does filling density mean?
The importance of the type of infill in 3D printing Infill density in 3D printing refers to the internal pattern of material that is printed within a 3D model to stabilize it and improve strength and durability, while saving material and printing time. The infill density percentage indicates what percentage of the model's interior is filled with material. A higher filling density percentage usually means a higher density inside the model and therefore higher strength, but also longer printing times and higher material consumption. If you select Normal filling density, the model is usually printed with 20-40% filling, with Solid filling density we print with at least 80% filling. If you need a lower or higher filling, you can reply to your order confirmation mail.
  • What is the maximum print size?
You can find a comprehensive article on our maximum pressure sizes at https://swiss3d.ch/groessen
  • What file types can be uploaded?
We accept various file formats for upload, including the most common formats for 3D models such as STL, OBJ, STP and STEP. If you are unsure whether we accept your desired file format, please feel free to contact us for more information.
  • When will I receive my model?
You can find the current delivery times at https://swiss3d.ch/start. For urgent orders, you can contact us by e-mail or telephone.
  • What exactly is the pressure?
Normally the print is printed to an accuracy of 0.1mm. We guarantee an accuracy of 0.2mm.
  • When should I opt for SLA?
The SLA process is particularly suitable if your model is complex or has many overhanging surfaces. SLA offers a higher resolution and better surface quality compared to other 3D printing techniques.
  • If the support structures are removed
Yes, 3D printing often requires support structures to stabilize the model during the printing process. We remove these support structures for you at no additional cost, so that you receive your model exactly as you uploaded it.
